H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) - for credible health information, please refer to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) web for daily updates on this serious threat.

Check back here for any news SCS has to share with you concerning our school.

Closing? If the school closes you will find that information by watching NBC Channel 5 (Website) and Channel 8 News (website). We will not follow DISD.

What You Can Do to Stay Healthy

Stay informed. The CDC website will be updated regularly as information becomes available.

Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.

Take everyday actions to stay healthy.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

What is May Crowning?

As are all flowers, the month of May is dedicated to Mary, whom we celebrate as Queen of Heaven on the last day of this month. Early in May, a statue of the Virgin at church is crowned with a wreath of roses, and the same are laid at her feet.

We celebrate May Crowning today, Thursday, May 7 with each child bringing a flower for Mary.

The seeds for the Twelve Hills Nature Center were planted almost exactly 8 years ago when they purchased 5+ acres to create an urban oasis that serves as a rich wildlife habitat and environmental education area for local school children.

On September 5th, after 4 years of fundraising efforts and design work construction of its $250,000 trailhead entrance will begin. The project will be the only major, permanent structure located at the Nature Center. It will provide open-air gathering and learning space for students from nearby schools, scout troops, early childhood and community programs.
