Serving over 20 years as a teaching artist in the Bishop Arts neighborhood in Oak Cliff, Lisa began her teaching career at St. Cecilia School in 1994. Lisa is a graduate of the University of North Texas where she earned a Bachelor of Music Composition, and continued graduate coursework in Jazz Studies/Voice, and Orff and Kodaly methods. Lisa writes all her own Orff arrangements for her classes, focusing on traditional songs of Mexico as well as bringing jazz to her older elementary and middle school students. This year at St. Cecilia will see the launch of a new guitar program ("La Rondalla Santa Cecilia") for the 5th-8th grades.
Over the years, Ms. Markley has also taught at St. Mary of Carmel and at Holy Trinity School, as well as maintained her private teaching studio where she teaches piano, guitar, beginning voice, jazz voice, and trombone. Lisa returned "home" to St. Cecilia School in the Fall of 2014. When not in the classroom, Lisa can be found performing jazz in the metroplex as well as touring the singer-songwriter circuit with her husband Bruce Balmer. Lisa is signed with the Soona Songs recording label, and is in the midst of post-production on her fourth cd with them.
